End of the Year Updates

April 21, 2020

Lexington R-V Students and Parents,

Governor Parson’s announcement, that school facilities will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year, has brought many questions and unknowns.  I recognize that there is particular concern regarding significant school traditions and events that accompany the end of the school year. This letter should address all of those questions and outline specifics of closing out this school year.

Learning activities allowing the opportunity for students to improve grades will continue through Friday, May 1st for seniors, and Tuesday, May 19th for all other grade levels.  These will continue to be provided in both virtual and packet formats. Packets including activities for the remainder of the year will be mailed at the end of this week. The 4th quarter will end Tuesday, May 19th, and the end of year report cards will be mailed home following the finalization of grades.  The Administrative Team will be organizing days and times for students to return any school items, as well as pick up any personal belongings that are in the buildings, at the end of May. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Meal service will continue to be provided as currently scheduled.  Any needed updates will be communicated. We hope to be able to provide this through the end of June.

Summer School is currently on hold.  If we are able to hold a summer school it would be later than the usual timeframe, likely in July.

Kindergarten and Early Childhood Screenings will be rescheduled for late this summer.  Please watch for follow up information on this.

As shared in previous communication, honoring and celebrating the accomplishments of our class of 2020 has been of the utmost importance to District staff.  This is an important milestone event and we are dedicated to providing a commencement ceremony. In an effort to help families plan appropriately, the following arrangements have been made:

Alternate – Thursday, July 23, 6:00 PM

Graduation – Sunday, June 21, 3:00 PM (Practice – Friday, June 19, 9:00 AM)
Alternate – Sunday, July 26, 3:00 PM (Practice – Friday, July 24, 9:00 AM)
If restrictions are still in place on July 26, we will have a virtual ceremony.
*Jostens will provide a PDF file that can be printed and inserted into announcements*

Prom -Saturday, June 20, 7:00-11:00 PM
Alternate – Saturday, July 25, 7:00-11:00 PM
If restrictions are still in place on July 25, the event will be canceled.

We have also heard your voices regarding recognizing the 8th grade class, as they reach the milestone of moving on to high school.  Commemoration has been rescheduled as follows:Monday, June 22, 6:00 PM
Alternate Date – Monday, July 27, 6:00 PM
If restrictions are still in place on July 27, we will consider virtual options.

The District cannot thank you enough for your continued support and patience throughout this unprecedented situation.  Cooperation between the school, families, and the community has been vital in order to work through this challenge. We have come together, as we always do, and shown that we are Minutemen strong! #minutemenallin

Sincerely,
